🦠 HPAI: moving from response to preparedness
Next week, Elisabetta Olgiati, Communications Officer of the IPC, will join the Boehringer Ingelheim Global HPAI Forum in Barcelona to share the global poultry industry’s perspective on HPAI, how we believe the challenge should be addressed, and what the sector can do to strengthen preparedness and resilience.
For the poultry industry, hashtag#HPAI is not a challenge that can be addressed through a single intervention.
It requires a comprehensive, science-based and risk-based approach, bringing together:
🔹 Strong biosecurity and surveillance
🔹 Early detection and effective disease reporting
🔹 Risk-based prevention and control measures
🔹 International cooperation and information sharing
🔹 Approaches that protect both animal health and trade
🔹 Preparedness that enables the sector to act before a crisis escalates
At IPC, we believe that preparedness is part of resilience.
This is why IPC has developed an Avian Influenza Issue Management Plan to help the global poultry sector move from ad hoc responses towards a more proactive, coordinated and predictable approach to HPAI-related crises.
The poultry sector has a responsibility to be prepared and an important role to play in shaping the solutions.
We look forward to contributing to the conversation in Barcelona and to exchanging perspectives with colleagues from across the global HPAI community.
