GF-TADs: Advancing Global Action on Avian Influenza
📌 GF-TADs Webinar: Advancing Global Action on Avian Influenza
Last week, experts from the FAO and the World Organisation for Animal Health came together under the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) to discuss the latest initiatives in preventing and controlling high pathogenicity avian influenza (hashtag#HPAI), one of the most pressing animal health challenges today.
The event highlighted the FAO/WOAH Global HPAI Strategy (2024–2033), reaffirming the commitment to a coordinated, hashtag#OneHealth approach that strengthens preparedness and response systems around the world.
🧠 Key takeaways from the session:
• Latest FAO, WOAH & OFFLU initiatives: Participants heard about new tools, technical guidance and practical support resources that member countries can use to address evolving avian influenza risks more effectively.
• Research collaboration: The session underscored the importance of research coordination, with reference to international roadmaps such as those developed by the STAR IDAZ Influenza Research Consortium, which help identify scientific priorities and improve disease control strategies.
• One Health in practice: Discussions emphasized integrated, cross-sectoral planning, bringing together veterinary, environmental and public health expertise to reduce the impacts of HPAI on animals, people and livelihoods around the globe.
Avian influenza continues to pose significant risks to poultry production, trade and food security, making global cooperation and knowledge sharing more essential than ever.
The IPC will continue to have an active role in the international community that drives forward solutions that protect animal health and strengthen resilience across livestock sectors.
