IPC Annual Meeting 2025 – Day 3 Roundup

Roberto Azevedo kicked-off the day talking about international trade. Then Animal health and its role in Africa were discussed.

Today started with a deep-dive session on the impact of international trade on inclusive growth and development for emerging market from Roberto Azevêdo, former Director General of World Trade Organization.

Followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Verity Price, on how the poultry sector can help deliver on Africa’s promise through cross-continental cooperation. The speakers were Youssef Alaoui, President of FISA MAROC, Jim Tozer, Managing Director Kenchic Limited and Onallo AKPA, Director General at the Poultry Association Of Nigeria.

Then we moved to Animal Health, with a presentation from Montserrat Arroyo Kuribreña, Deputy Director General International Standards and Science at the World Organisation for Animal Health on the future of animal health in Africa, the role of the poultry sector in addressing Avian Influenza and the importance of veterinary education across the region.

john bewuah edusei gave a presentation on succession planning in poultry farming, investments and running agriculture as a business.

We had another panel discussion, moderated by Greg Tyler, with the aim to understand how the poultry industry can help empower people through access to training and skills development. The speakers were Maureen Stickel, Director at World Poultry Foundation, Andrew Butare from Rwanda Poultry Industry Association and Paul Burke, Executive Director U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC).

Omar El Amrani, Vice President FISA MAROC gave an overview of the Moroccan poultry sector, its challenges and opportunities, consumption trends and production outlook.

Lastly, Nan-Dirk Mulder, Senior Global Specialist Animal Protein Rabobank deep-dived into market trends and gave an outlook on the years ahead for poultry and other animal proteins.
