AMR: Implementing the 2024 Political Declaration

🌍 What can the private sector do in the fight against AMR?

At the recent FAO event on “AMR: Implementing the 2024 Political Declaration – Industry Accountability and Equity in Agrifood Sector Transformation”, IPC Secretary General Nicolò Cinotti had the honour of representing the private sector in addressing this crucial question, speaking on a panel that also included FAO Deputy Director-General Godfrey Magwenzi, Assistant Director-General Thanawat Tiensin, HealthforAnimals Executive Director Carel du Marchie Sarvaas, Ambassadors from Kenya, UK, South Africa, India, Brazil and others.

One key message emerged clearly: recognizing and respecting each other’s roles is fundamental.

🧭 The path to defeating AMR is a shared journey but not everyone starts from the same place, nor with the same perspective. That’s why it’s challenging to define one-size-fits-all guidelines that have equal impact across the board.

💡 Global associations like IPC play a vital role in knowledge-sharing. In 2019, IPC developed a set of AMR Stewardship Principles, that you can read here https://lnkd.in/dpm6ehmv, to guide responsible use practices globally.

🌐 The private sector also has a responsibility to advocate for a unified language and common standards in the global fight against AMR.
