2025 World Zoonoses Day
#WorldZoonosesDay, observed annually on July 6, raises awareness about zoonotic diseases – Infections that spread between animals and humans.
The date commemorates Louis Pasteur’s successful administration of the first rabies vaccine on July 6, 1885, marking a pivotal moment in the history of disease prevention.
This observance underscores the critical role of responsible animal husbandry, food safety, and a safe environment in mitigating the risks posed by zoonotic threats.
IPC supports efforts aimed at the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases affecting animal production systems, recognizing this as an essential strategy to reduce the risk of transmission to human populations.
These efforts are aligned with the One Health approach, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health and promotes integrated, multisectoral collaboration to address shared health threats.
