Are borders, defined as physical boundaries, outdated when it comes to disease control?

IPC’s Secretary General Nicolò Cinotti answers this question in his latest article on Poultry International.

“We must acknowledge that global food security relies on the constant movement of food and that the system must be able to overcome anything, be it disease or disease control, that could interrupt the flow.

“This is why we must push and advocate for an approach that is as homogeneous and globally accepted as possible.”

The answer to overcome the physical border concept is collaboration.

“As an example, the standards laid down by the World Organisation for Animal Health, and above all the standard for AI, are global, but getting everyone to abide by both the spirit and letter of them is increasingly difficult.”
