Sustainable Livestock Principles

A united commitment for sustainable livestock production.

The International Poultry Council is proud to join partners across the global livestock community in supporting the Common Principles and Actions for Sustainable Livestock Production.

Launched ahead of the FAO Sustainable Livestock Conference and COP30 this fall, this collective resource sends a clear message: the livestock sector is ready to deliver solutions for people and planet.

These principles reflect a shared commitment to:
– Delivering for both people and planet through integrated environmental, economic, and social progress.
– Recognizing livestock as a foundation of sustainable food systems, supporting 1.3 billion livelihoods and providing essential nutrition worldwide.
– Placing animal health at the center of sustainability, reducing emissions and strengthening resilience.
– Driving innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge-sharing to accelerate progress.
– Supporting farmers as the primary stewards of land, livestock, and ecosystems.

From poultry to dairy, from smallholder to large-scale production, our sector is united in its determination to provide safe, nutritious food while reducing environmental impact and supporting communities around the world.

Together, we can build a more sustainable food system that delivers for animals, people, and the planet.
